Occasionally, for some paintings, I can’t find the right photo reference for whichever canine or feline I’m going to portray. So from time to time I have to dig out the props and become my subject for the forthcoming painting. This particular pose is for a forthcoming homage to a local bulldog by the name of Winnie. To get some insight into Winnie’s psyche and being a fan of ‘The Method’ school of acting, I ate some stuff out of a bin, peed on a lamp post, defecated in the park (while my erstwhile assistant deposited it in a biodegradable bag) and licked some urine off a nettle.
As Sir Larry said to Mr Hoffman, ‘Have you tried acting dear boy?!’
There’s got to be an easier way…. Hot water bottle cover models own.
